Latin GRAMMY winning children’s artist Andres Salguero is teaching children at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School about Latin American countries through his music.
This community outreach program entitled Jump Start with the Arts was funded by Carpe Diem Arts’ an organization supported by El Golfo Restaurant.
“We feel it’s really important for young children to have memorable experiences in the arts,” said Michelle Mosher, associate director, Carpre Diem Arts. “They’re at the stage of development where they’re growing so rapidly socially, emotionally, cognitively and we believe the arts enriches that experience.”
This performance was also a measure made by organizers in partnership with school staff to support the children of families displaced by the Flower Branch Apartments explosion.
“This year we particularly wanted to come here because we knew that the school serves many of the children who were displaced by the explosion of the flower branch apartments,” said Mosher. “We also wanted to celebrate the school community that pulled together in the aftermath of that tragedy.”
Salguero has performed all over the world in many important places but said the most important work he does is in schools.
“I get to connect with the students so close and hear a little bit from them to travel together and learn about cultures so every time I come to elementary schools it’s a pleasure.”
