Harris Elected Vice President of Gaithersburg City Council
Gaithersburg City Councilmembers have elected Neil Harris as the new vice president of the City Council.
Harris succeeds Councilmember Michael Sesma who served as Council vice president this past year.
It was Sesma who nominated Harris at the Council meeting on Monday night. The motion was seconded by Councilmember Rob Wu, and the vote passed 3-0.
The Council vice president serves in the absence of the mayor.
During his remarks, Sesma noted that he never had to step up to that duty because Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman did not miss a meeting this past year.
Harris is a Kentlands resident, who was has served on the City Council since 2014.
