Floreen Holds Final News Briefing as Council President, Announces OLO Study on Minimum Wage (VIDEO)
Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen met with reporters on Dec. 5 and provided updates and fielded questions about the landlord tenant law, the minimum wage bill, the Bethesda Downtown Sector Plan, the Purple Line and more.
As for the minimum wage bill, she announced a new study.
“I have asked the Office of Legislative Oversight to conduct an economic impact analysis of that [minimum wage] bill,” said Floreen, adding that there has not been any information shared to date about how the bill may impact employers.
In other Council news, she said the power transition is the big thing happening at the Council Office Building this week.
“Roger Berliner will take over as president tomorrow,” said Floreen. “I am sure it will be a very successful year under him.”
Floreen also shared a two page information sheet highlighting the Council’s work in 2016. The list of achievements covered an array of categories including budget and education, business and development, social justice, public safety, good government, quality of life, health and welfare, tax relief for seniors and the environment.
“We are moving the county forward; made a lot of hard decisions this year,” she said. “I think the county is in a very good place right now.”
