Student Population Changes in Montgomery Public Schools (VIDEO)

Enrollment in Montgomery County Public County Public Schools (MCPS)  is expected to reach a record-high of 159,242 students this school year, according to a new report by James Song, director of facilities management for MCPS.  This report was presented to the Board of Education at a recent meeting, and it highlighted how school enrollment is surpassing school capacity.

There are roughly 37 school-clusters with a capacity deficit. A full breakdown is below:

Another trend discussed at this meeting was the change in demographics within the school system. For the first time since tracking student enrollment began in 2007, the number of Hispanic students surpasses the number of White students in MCPS.
