MCPS Posts Online Message About Clown Social Media Posts
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) officials have written a letter to parents and guardians this week about “vague threats via social media” to several schools that were shared under a “clown” alias. The letter has also been posted on the district’s website.
According to MCPS, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is aware of the threats and is investigating the matter. MCPS officials noted that similar threats have been made to surrounding jurisdictions, including Prince George’s County Public Schools and Frederick County Public Schools.
“At this time, MCPD has stated that there is nothing to indicate there is any threat to public safety regarding these social media posts,” wrote school officials in the letter to parents and guardians. “MCPS is working with MCPD and will be monitoring this situation closely.”
