State Grant to Help Expand Employment Opportunities to those with Disabilities in County

WorkSource Montgomery will be able to expand its employment opportunities for residents with disabilities due to the federal funding the State of Maryland will be receiving as a part of a grant o serve job seekers in Montgomery County and Anne Arundel County.

According to a news release, the U.S. Department of Labor recently awarded Disability Employment Initiative grants totaling 14.9 million to support workforce development in six states, including $2.5 million for the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for distribution in Montgomery and Anne Arundel counties.

“We’re proud to be one of the two jurisdictions in Maryland that will be responsible for administering this program, which will help to create outstanding employment opportunities people with disabilities who want to enter the workforce,” Ellie Giles, CEO of WorkSource Montgomery, said. “We’re delighted that these funds will play a vital role in enabling us to better serve job-seekers in Montgomery County with disabilities,” Giles said.

The funding provided through the DEI grant, will help expand job training and placement services for persons with disabilities. Individualized training opportunities will assist job-seekers gain credentials in various industries, such as, business services, construction, healthcare, and retail.
