Police Crack Down on Distracted Driving Along I-270
Maryland troopers and Montgomery County police officers are cracking down on distracted and aggressive driving along I-270 in Montgomery County.
On Wednesday morning, between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., police pulled over 129 motorists and issued 119 traffic citations and 69 warnings.
According to a news release from the Maryland State Police Department, this joint traffic initiative was designed because of an increasing number of traffic collisions with police vehicles and other motorists who drive daily on I-270.
The primary focus of this effort was to enforce Maryland’s “Move Over” law.
If you see a stopped emergency vehicle in the direction you are traveling, police say it is important to move over safely when possible or slow down if you are unable to change lanes.
