Citizen Journalism-Sept 2015
Prerequisites: noneLength: 3 weeksFee: $200.00Instructor: Mandi Wyndham
Citizen Journalism is a form of broadcast journalism where the individual is the reporter, camera operator and editor. These individuals have the ability to get into their neighborhoods and communities to get the stories that matter to them. These reporters are vital to getting the word out in Montgomery County.
Professional instructors at Montgomery Community Media teach classes of students how to report, film, produce, and edit their own feature news stories, which then air on The Montgomery Channel and Access 19. Over the 3 weeks, students attend 4 three-hour hands-on sessions, learning recording basics, story composition, camera setup, and interview techniques. One week is reserved for each student to set out on their own to record their chosen story, and another week for editing the video for that story. The class includes all materials, use of editing software, and use of equipment such as High-Definition cameras. After students film their feature story, they learn to edit it using Final Cut Pro X software, with the finished piece airing on local cable TV channels, posted online, and will receive a DVD copy.
All classes are “hands-on” and are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings, starting at 7 p.m.
All sessions are held at:
