Here are five things you should know today, Aug. 1. in Montgomery County:
1. Be prepared for delays and crowded trains if you plan to commute on Metro’s Red Line. Commuters are advised to find transportation alternatives this week as SafeTrack repairs begin on the Red Line. Find out what Montgomery County is doing to help travelers, here.
2. The Red Line is expected to be one of several topics that County Council President Nancy Floreen addresses at her 11 a.m. weekly news briefing, today.
3. Seniors take note: The Holiday Park Senior Center is closed today, and tomorrow, as construction begins on a parking canopy to support solar panels. In case you missed it, the Council Office Building is also getting solar panels this month.
4. Rockville residents should know that tonight’s Mayor and City Council meeting begins thirty minutes early, at 6:30 p.m., because of a lengthy agenda. This is the last Council meeting before a six-week recess. Find out what is on the agenda, here.
5. Parks staffers are warning residents to keep their pets out of the water at Lake Needwood and Lake Frank at Rock Creek Regional Park. According to a note on the Parks website, staffers are monitoring the lakes for possible elevated levels of microcystin, a seasonal blue-green algae bloom that may be toxic and harmful if digested.
