County Council President Nancy Floreen News Briefing (VIDEO)
The room was packed for Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen’s weekly briefing with reporters on June 20.
Floreen began by talking about the bill she will introduce on Tuesday, June 21, that would amend procedures for solving an impasse in collective bargaining with County employees and for making the process more transparent. Some union employees attended the news briefing because they oppose the bill. Floreen said she would meet with the workers after the briefing.
During the news briefing, Floreen also noted that approximately 200 applications have been filed regarding the installation of smaller cell towers to improve cell phone service. A bill to allow the smaller cell towers was introduced last week. There will be a public hearing on this bill July 19.
She also reported that an Office of Legislative Oversight report would be released Tuesday that examines comparative tax burdens across the region.
The Council is also expected to receive an update on Tuesday about the relocation of a school bus depot, Floreen said at the briefing. The Council will also hold a public hearing on the minimum wage on Tuesday night. Floreen also reported that the Transportation and Environment Committee will be briefed Thursday on Metro’s SafeTrack program.
