Montgomery County Ranks 19th Happiest Place in America

photo of Woman and young girl in kitchen with laptop and paperwork smilingThere’s a new study out that looks at happiness in counties across America, and Montgomery County ranks 19th in the 2016 SmartAsset.com study, which is out this month.

When it comes to the happiest places, Loudoun County, Virginia and Fairfax County, Virginia are ranked number one and two, respectively. This is the second year in a row that Loudoun County topped the list.

According to the SmartAsset.com study, the unemployment rate and poverty rate are under 4% in Loudoun. For the record, Montgomery County also has an unemployment rate of under 4%.

Fairfax County was touted for its life expectancy age, and Montgomery County slightly bests that stat with a life expectancy age of 83.3.

SmartAsset.com reports that it included various criteria for this study, including counties with populations of over 50,000, marriage rate, income ratio, life expectancy, physical activity rate, poverty rate, unemployment rate, divorce rate and personal bankruptcy rate.

According to the study, seven of the ten happiest counties are on the East Coast and that includes Howard County, Maryland, which is listed at number seven.

At number 19, Montgomery County’s stats included the following, according to SmartAsset.com:

  • 3.6% unemployment rate
  • 6.9% poverty rate
  • 53.2% marriage rate
  • .17% bankruptcy rate
  • 83.3 life expectancy age
  • 59.75% physical activity rate
