Concilmember Hucker and Delegate Kelly have invited leaders and advocates of paid family and medical leave to join them at the event which will take place in Silver Spring. The legislation aims to help seniors and their caretakers, persons with disabilities, military families, people affected by serious illnesses and new parents have equal access to time off work.

New Jersey, California and Rhode Island have programs that allow workers to receive two thirds of their salary for a total of twelve weeks for family or medical leave. The bill has nearly 100 co-sponsors and hearings are scheduled in the House of Delegates on March 1 and in the Senate on March 3.

The event will take place at the Silver Spring Civic Building which is located at One Veterans Place at 10 a.m.
