Seniors Try Out Wearable Tech (PHOTO)

Wearable technology is not just for young people. Twenty seniors had the opportunity to learn and try out activity trackers during a fitness class in Bethesda on Thursday, Feb. 25.

Oasis, a nonprofit group that promotes healthy aging, and AT&T partnered together to introduce Fitbit, a wearable tech device that tracks your activity. Oasis host the fitness class every week at St. Lukes Church which is located at 6030 Grosvenor Lane.

Volunteers and tech pros explained all the details about how to use technology to live a healthier lifestyle. Wes Amos is the manager of the AT&T store located in Montgomery Mall.

“We had some volunteers pair the fitness devices with everyone’s smart phones and teach them about wearable technology…We [also] taught them about tracking steps, tracking workouts and heart rates. It really helps you track your activity [to] set healthy lifestyle goals for yourself,” Amos said.

Ronnie Singer is a resident of Rockville and was excited to try out her new Fitbit.

“I’m and so excited that I won a Fitbit because I wanted one for so long. I would recommend it to everybody I know. It made me work even harder during my exercise class today and it’s a great product,” Singer said.
