UPDATED Several horses were rescued after a partial roof collapse at a barn on Sugarland Road in Poolesville, according to a Montgomery County fire official.

Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said the incident happened in the 15000 block of Sugarland Road shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Piringer, 12 horses were involved and three were pinned under the debris of the heavy steel and aluminum structure. Piringer said the weather and the location of the barn caused some challenges for the technical rescue crews at the scene because of drifting snow. The barn is located 700 feet from the roadway.

Piringer said 36 horses were displaced and 12 were freed from the barn. No civilian injuries were reported, according to Piringer.
