Crane Operation Will Close Portion of Wisconsin Avenue on Saturday (PHOTOS)
On Saturday morning, Crane Service Company, Inc. is scheduled to close all southbound lanes of MD 355 (Wisconsin Avenue) between Commerce Lane and MD 187 (Old Georgetown Road) in Bethesda for a crane operation at 7514 Wisconsin Avenue.
Crews plan to open all traffic lanes by 4 p.m. weather permitting.
In case of inclement weather, the work will be performed Sunday during the same times.
During the daytime southbound MD 355 closure, the company will move a large crane into place to hoist steel and a rooftop HVAC unit at 7514 Wisconsin Avenue. According to a state highway news release, the road must be closed to safely operate the large crane. The property is owned by Meritage Properties, LLC of Scarsdale, NY.
During the road closure, southbound MD 355 drivers should follow signs directing traffic along the detour route:
• Right on Commerce Lane
• Right onto MD 187 (Old Georgetown Road)
• Left onto Woodmont Avenue
• Left onto Montgomery Lane to access southbound MD 355
Electronic message boards warning drivers of the upcoming closure are in place.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times during the work. Sidewalks on southbound MD 355 will be closed during the crane operation. Pedestrians will be directed to safe crossings and sidewalks on northbound MD 355 during the work.
Holy cow! These views are amazing! It must be so cool to be a crane operator. I wouldn’t be able to do it because I am scared of heights. I wonder how crane operators get up on that high of a crane in the first place.
