UPDATED: Police Investigate Stabbing in Silver Spring as Homicide

policecar2UPDATED Montgomery County Police are investigating the stabbing death of an 18-year-old in the Briggs Chaney area of Silver Spring as a homicide.

According to police, the stabbing occurred the afternoon of June 10th in the 14100 block of Castle Boulevard.

Police have arrested and charged Mitchell Zio, age 19, of White Oak with second degree murder.

Police have identified the victim as Derik Benson, age 18. Police said Benson was found lying on his back from a stab wound. According to police, he died from his injuries at the hospital.

According to a police account, a description of the suspect was provided to officers via the police radio. Officers located and arrested the suspect, now identified as Zio, as he attempted to flee the area. Police said Zio had blood on him and officers recovered a knife.

The police investigation indicates that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

Police said Zio was transported to the Central Processing Unit and was charged with second degree murder.

    What I don’t understand is why youths of today cannot control their rage/anger? Now, as a result of the hype, a mother has to live “sonless” for the rest of her life, while another mother has to live with the fact the her 1- year old son is a murderer and who will spend the rest of his life in jail…lost future. Today’s teens are just senseless, arrogant, and antagonistic…There is no race in this…It’s a young people “culture” across America…

    Back in the day, people used to fist-fight and it ended when one was pinned to the ground and gave in…not these days, kids just want to destroy…Teen of today need to find true worth in themselves and put their energy in things that matter (be positive, show love and respect for others).
