County’s Arts and Humanities Council Hosts Potluck (PHOTOS)
The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County hosted its annual Advocacy Potluck and invited the Montgomery County Council to talk about the proposed budget for the county’s arts and humanities program.
Suzan Jenkins, director of the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, said the council members and their staff got a chance to mingle with AHCMC grantees and staff April 15 between public hearings on the fiscal year 2016 budget.
“Public hearing days are long and grueling. Potlucks are a chance to eat and meet and greet on an informal basis,” Jenkins said. “We are lucky in that we have a county council that loves and supports the arts. They go to the theater, they go to hear music and see exhibitions.”
Jenkins said she testified in support of the funding proposed in the County Executive budget. The AHCMC had an fy2015 budget of more than $4.4 million in general funds and an additional $1 million in capital funding in addition to another $140,000 for management of the county’s Public Arts Trust. Jenkins said the organization is proposed to maintain that current funding level next year.
