Buckle Up: Car Seat Safety Program in Montgomery County
Families in Montgomery County can rely on the infant and child car seat safety program to learn how to properly strap a baby into a car seat.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, three of every four car seats are installed improperly.
But Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service runs a program that checks car seats as often as five days a week.
Montgomery County Car Seat Program Coordinator Emily Crown said the county has offered this program for more than 15 years, and added that they check monthly more than 500 car seats.
Crown said residents must scheduled an appointment prior to visiting a site in the county that offers the program.
She also said common mistakes are people not putting the seat “tightly” enough, the child facing the wrong direction, or inappropriate seat.
To Crown safety comes first and she urged parents to seek help from a car seat specialist at the county’s safety program.
