Recreation Department Honors Its Holiday Park Volunteers (PHOTOS)
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joined Holiday Park Senior Center staff to recognize volunteers at the center’s Volunteer Recognition event this week.
At the ceremony, county officials recognized 138 individuals who provided more than 20,000 hours of volunteer service in 2014 to support the day-to-day operations of the Holiday Park Senior Center. Many of the volunteers have served the center for more than 20 years. Volunteer positions include administration and advocacy, front desk information and referral, nutrition program and café, gift shop and plant room volunteers.
The ceremony included a luncheon, remarks from Leggett, acknowledgement of each of the volunteers and entertainment by Magician Eric Henning.
“The work our volunteers do every day helps build a stronger sense of community that strengthens Montgomery County and draws us closer,” said Leggett. “I am very proud of these dedicated volunteers who give selflessly to make the County a better place to live and retire.”
“Holiday Park Senior Center serves upward of 600 residents a day,” said Phil Smakula, senior program manager. “There is no way the department could provide all of the programs and services it does, without the tireless support of our volunteers, who are true assets to our senior programs.”
Holiday Park is one of the County’s five senior centers that serve residents age 55 and older. The other senior centers are Damascus, Long Branch, Margaret Schweinhaut and White Oak.
