Teen Struck and Killed by MARC Train in Gaithersburg (UPDATED)
UPDATED, Jan. 6, 4 p.m. – Police have identified the man hit and killed by a MARC train on Monday as 18-year-old Mario Ernesto Hernandez of Gaithersburg.
Police said at about 4:12 p.m. on Jan. 5, officers from the 6th District , the Gaithersburg Police Department and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a train on the tracks located in the area of the Gaithersburg MARC station, 5 South Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg.
For reasons still under investigation, Hernandez had been in the area of the tracks when he was struck by a train. He died on the scene, according to police. The investigation has revealed the MARC train operator did sound the horn and apply the train’s brakes. The operator has stated Hernandez had the hood on his jacket up which may have restricted his peripheral vision, according to the police press release.
Police said no foul play is suspected.

UPDATED: Montgomery County Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a train in Gaithersburg late Monday afternoon.
At about 4:12 p.m. officers from the 6th District , the Gaithersburg City Police Department and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a train on the tracks located in the area of the Gaithersburg MARC station at 5 South Summit Ave. in Gaithersburg.
The initial investigation has revealed that for reasons still under investigation, the man, believed to be an adult, had been in the area of the tracks when he was struck by a train. The man died on the scene, according to police. No foul play is suspected, police said. Detectives are currently working to establish the man’s identity.

According to tweets from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer, the man was hit by a northbound MARC train headed to Brunswick.
The Brunswick line services was suspended during the investigation, according to the Maryland Transit Authority.
