Westfield Mall Road Rage Stabber to Be Sentenced Tuesday
UPDATED: A Potomac man found guilty of a road rage incident that escalated into a double stabbing outside the Westfield Montgomery Mall last year is scheduled for his sentencing Tuesday, Jan. 13 .
The case is expected to be heard at 1:30 p.m.
David Goldberg, was found guilty of nine counts stemming from a road rage incident at Montgomery Mall.
Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl McCally agreed to delay sentencing in the case against David Benjamin Goldberg scheduled for Thursday. It is now set for Jan. 13. Also set for that date is a motion by defense attorney Robert Bonsib to group all charges in the case for a maximum sentence of 20 years. He now faces more than 100 years for the counts against him. Bonsib has also filed a motion for a new trial in the case, he told MyMCMedia.
Goldberg wiped tears away with a tissue as he sat in court Thursday listening to a handful of his family and friends who gave testimony on his behalf. One family friend, Neil Reinert-Andrews traveled from London, England to appear in court.
He called Goldberg “hardworking” and “strong.”
Goldberg’s aunt, Ronnie Lee Goldberg, said her nephew suffered from Tourette syndrome and other physical ailments caused by a car accident, but she said he is a good father to his daughter. His daughter was in the car during the Nov. 2013 incident.
“Obviously there was some serious poor judgement reflected on that day,” said Stewart Uretsky, Goldberg’s cousin.
One of the victims in the case who was present at the hearing declined a comment to MyMCMedia.
