A Slam Dunk: Audacity of Hoops Basketball Tournament [VIDEO]
Players, from all over the county, slam-dunked, played defense, and showed their free throwing skills at the fourth annual Audacity of Hoops basketball tournament on Sept. 20 in downtown Silver Spring.
This year, Councilmember Cherri Branson hosted the event that features adults, and high school-age boys and girls. The 3-on-3 tournament uses sports and recreation as a way to engage students and their families in constructive activities.
“I’m just glad to be able to continue this tradition of having this Audacity of Hoops tournament for four years and I hope it continues after this,” Branson said.
The tournament was an initiative of former Councilmember Valerie Ervin, who hosted the event for the first time in 2011.
“Every year gets bigger and bigger. It’s exactly what we wanted to see happening in the plaza … This started because of the teen violence that we were seen happening here on the plaza four years ago,” Ervin said.
Ervin attended today’s Audacity of Hoops tournament and said she was really happy to see how the community continues to come together to celebrate the county’s youth.
