New Parking Fees in Place in Takoma Junction
If you are going out in Takoma Park you had better bring some change for parking.
The city-owned parking lot between the TPSS Co-op at 201 Ethan Allen Ave. and the Takoma Auto Clinic at 7221 Carroll Ave., is now paid parking.
According to Sara Daines, director of housing and community development, commuters were using the lot and the city wanted to discourage all-day parking there.
“This is to facilitiat the turnover of the parking spaces in the lot,” she said.
Parking now costs 25 cents per 15 minutes; 4 hour maximum, Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays and federal holidays are free and there is no overnight parking.
This became effective on September 2. Police officers will be leaving flyers on vehicles through Sept. 16 to remind drivers of this change. On Sept. 17 enforcement by police will be conducted for the new paid parking rules.
Parking spaces at the back of the lot by the fence are leased by the TPSS Co-Op for the use of the Co-Op staff and customers and are not subject to the parking fees.
To use the Parking Pay Station:
1.Park your car and go to the parking station at the northwest corner of the lot, near Carroll Avenue and the TPSS Co-op.
2.Follow the instructions to pay for the time you need to leave your car in the lot.
3.Take the paper ticket from the machine and display it on your dashboard to show that you’ve paid to park.
