On the #MoCo Council Agenda: White Oak, Unaccompanied Minors

The Montgomery County Council is scheduled to hold its final discussions and then vote on the White Oak Science Gateway Master Plan at 1:30 p.m. on July 29.

The plan will guide transformation of the area on the east side of the County around the Route 29 corridor and the Food and Drug Administration into a community of vibrant mixed-use centers.

The action on the White Oak plan will take place during the afternoon portion of the Council’s regularly weekly session, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Third Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville. The Council’s morning and afternoon sessions will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon).

In the afternoon session, following the action on the White Oak plan, the Council will be briefed on the impact of unaccompanied minors who are crossing the border to enter the United States and may end up in the County. The briefing was requested by Councilmember Nancy Navarro.

The briefing will address what steps County agencies are taking to coordinate to address the needs of these minors.

Among those expected to participate the briefing are Chrisandra Richardson, the associate superintendent of the Office of Special Education Student Services for Montgomery County Public Schools; Uma Ahluwalia, director the County’s Department of Health and Human Services; and Bruce Adams, director of the County’s Office of Community Partnerships.
