Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs Spreads Spring Cheer to Riderwood

Sometimes, you just never know what the day will bring.

When Debra Vinh, Communications Specialist at Riderwood retirement community, signed for a large delivery of flowers May 13, the mystery had just begun.

The notecard on the delivery read “To the Residents of Riderwood: Wishing you a bountiful and beautiful spring! –Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs & Combs Entertainment.”

“I wondered if these were really from THE Sean Combs, or just someone’s idea of a joke,” wondered Ms. Vinh.  “But the dogwood flowers were so beautiful.”  So she contacted Simone Gomez, a Facilities Coordinator at the Erickson Living retirement community.

After a series of phone calls, the mystery was later revealed.

As it turns out, Mr. Combs, the musician, entrepreneur and philanthropist, received an honorary doctorate from nearby Howard University May 10 as part of the Class of 2014 graduation ceremony.

Following the festivities, friends and family held a celebratory luncheon in his honor.  A Washington-based event company, Events by Andre Wells, staged the affair.

According to Mr. Wells, at the conclusion of the luncheon, Mr. Combs told him that it would be a shame for all of the gorgeous flowers to be left behind.  “Is there anywhere we could send them to brighten someone’s day?” Mr. Combs asked.

Mr. Wells thought of Riderwood, among other locations, and the flowers were delivered on Tuesday afternoon, May 13.

“It was simply an act of kindness, and that makes us feel good.  His mission was accomplished, and we appreciate Mr. Combs’ thoughtfulness,” stated Ms. Gomez.

The three bouquets are proudly displayed in the Town Center clubhouse of Riderwood.
