It’s not your average art show.
“Feast for the Eyes II” features art by none other than residents at Riderwood Senior Community in Silver Spring.

It’s their largest show yet and seniors at Riderwood Senior Community in Silver Spring are pulling out all the stops, sharing the stories of their past through their artwork.
“It’s very satisfying to know that we have all of this art at Riderwood that is so professional,” said Peggy Zee, a Riderwood resident and a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
For Sheila Pinsker, a former museum educator, she’s grateful for the opportunity for residents to showcase their artwork.
“I find it mind boggling that there are so many people who live at Riderwood who have such superb talents and much of the work that you see on exhibit here is museum quality,” said Pinsker, a resident at Riderwood.
The three-day art show, which is open to the public in recognition of active aging month, features more than 165 works of art by 42 Riderwood residents.
“These folks are people that have a passion for art almost all their lives. The quality of the work today is really fueled by the passion that these residents have for art,” said Jeff Getek, Public Affairs Manager at Riderwood. “I’ve actually seen some folks today moved to tears from seeing some of the creativity on display and some of the passion behind the work.”
For one resident, the story is personal. Her work honors her family and her heritage.
“I’m showing today three pieces of a five piece collection at this point and I hope to make many more pieces to go back in time and present if you will the terrors that has happened over the years mostly to the Jewish people,” said Renate Chernoff, a Riderwood resident. “I myself am from Germany and was lucky enough to escape and we arrived on the shores in late ’38 and I lost most of my family was left behind and in a way it was telling my story but also telling the story of my people.”
