Five Things You Need To Know Today, March 20

springmarch20Happy first day of spring! Here is a quick list of five things you need to know today, March 20, in Montgomery County:

1. The Montgomery County Planning Board will hold a public hearing today on the mandatory referrals for the Purple Line and related projects between Bethesda and Takoma Langley Crossroads.

2. The Montgomery County Council’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee and its Education Committee will meet jointly at 10 a.m. today to discuss food policy issues for Montgomery County Public Schools. Among the topics the committee members will discuss is a proposed healthy and nutritious foods program that Council President Craig Rice and Council Vice President George Leventhal recently asked the Board of Education to consider. Dr. Joshua Starr, who has responded to that request, is expected to attend the meeting as well.

3. More than 800 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) high school juniors will attend the 13th Annual Montgomery County Young Professional Conference from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. today at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville.

4. The Friends of the Library’s literary luncheon series takes place today at the Strathmore Mansion. Author and BBC correspondent Kim Ghattas will discuss her latest book, “The Secretary: A Journey with Hillary Clinton from Beirut to the Heart of American Power,” as well as discuss her experiences as an international journalist.

5. A Coalition for Smarter Growth forum entitled, “How Can Metro Serve the Growing Maryland Suburbs in the 21st Century,” is taking place later today in Silver Spring.
