Judge Sentences Govan to 35 Years (Photo)
Montgomery County judge Cheryl McCally sentenced Byron Deshane Govan (28) of White Plains, Maryland to 35 years in prison on Dec. 19 after he plead guilty to armed carjacking and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to an advisory issued by the State’s Attorney for Montgomery County.
“This sentence holds Mr. Govan accountable for the carjackings and robberies he committed,” said Public Affairs Director Ramon Korinoff. “This defendant has 35 years in prison to think about the crimes he did. Terrorizing a broad swath of the metropolitan DC area, Mr. Govan was caught using his ill-gotten gains trying to seduce a young woman at a bar – he put his phone number in her phone- which led police to his mobile device. From Alexandria to Anne Arundel and everywhere in between this defendant exemplifies criminality of the lowest order. Thanks to good police work in five jurisdictions we were able to put Govan behind bars.”
According to the charging document, the carjacking of a 2004 Lincoln Aviator occurred on Rockville Pike on Oct. 31, 2012.
