Burnett Named Executive Director CVC-MC (Photo)

The Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC-MC) recently made a leadership decision to promote its current administrator Sarah Burnett and name her its new Executive Director. The board hired an executive director to ensure there is a skilled manager at the helm to implement the organization’s mission and vision.

Burnett is a nonprofit professional with a background in business administration. Burnett took on the position of Executive Director with the CVC-MC in October 2013 after two-and-half years as the part-time administrator/coordinator with the organization. Burnett was introduced to the CVC during her 8 years of employment with CVC member business, hodgsonConsulting.

“It has been a great pleasure to learn and grow with the CVC the past two and a half years. I’m so grateful to the incredibly supportive and hard-working Board of Directors of the CVC for facilitating this growth and look forward to continuing our journey together as I step into this new role,” Burnett said.

In her role, Burnett works with businesses that wish to engage their employees as volunteers to the benefit of the business, the employees and the greater community. Working closely with the Board of Directors and several committees, Sarah and the CVC educate businesses on how to develop effective partnerships with nonprofits through educational, service and networking opportunities.

Sarah is a life-long resident of Montgomery County currently living in Chevy Chase. Her education includes Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College and University of Maryland University College. Her professional history is made up entirely of Montgomery County small businesses including hodgsonConsulting in Kensington, Now & Then in Takoma Park, and Woodmoor Pastry Shop in Silver Spring.

Burnett’s personal volunteerism is focused on the arts and humanities. She is proud to serve on the executive steering committee for the Small Press Expo, the largest convening of small and independent publishers of comic art in the nation, held each year in Bethesda. In addition, Sarah volunteers with the DC Shorts Film Festival and looks forward to serving at Button Farm Living History Center with the CVC each year.

Burnett’s more interesting hobbies include collecting vintage typewriters, researching her family history and genealogy, and watching any PBS program with Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
