MTA Seeks Advisory Committee Members for CCT Areas

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced the creation of Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT) Area Advisory Committees. Committee members will partner with the MTA and representatives from Montgomery County, the City of Gaithersburg, and the City of Rockville to plan the proposed station areas along the CCT corridor. Residents, community organization members, area employees, and business owners are encouraged to complete the self nomination form, which can be found at www.mta.maryland.gov/cct. Completed forms are due to the MTA by Dec. 3.

The CCT is a 15 mile bus rapid transit system in Montgomery County, Maryland from the COMSAT facility just south of Clarksburg to the Shady Grove Metro Station. The project has two phases. Phase I is nine miles from the Metropolitan Grove MARC Station to Shady Grove. This phase, actively underway, is currently proceeding with engineering and environmental analysis, and is funded for preliminary design, final design, and right-of-way acquisition. Phase II is six miles long and would be a future extension from Metropolitan Grove to the COMSAT facility.

Each of the 14 proposed station areas in Phase I will be assigned to one of four committees. The Area Advisory Committees will advise MTA on important design decisions, including:

• Station Design and Amenities
• Safety and Security
• Traffic Management
• Transitway Access
• Transit Operations
• Community Interface
