Montgomery County Hosts Chinese Investors This Weekend

As a direct outcome of the connections developed from September’s China Mission trip led by County Executive Ike Leggett, Montgomery County was chosen as one of only three site visits to showcase investment opportunities to a group of select business executives from China on November 2, after the delegation’s participation in the “Select USA Investment Summit” sponsored by the U.S. government.

The “Select USA Investment Summit” is the first such event organized by the U.S. government to promote and facilitate direct investment (both domestic and foreign) in the United States. Please see the web site, www.selectusasummit.com for background and the full agenda.

Following meetings with President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, the Chinese business delegation, joined by U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke, will visit Montgomery County on Saturday, November 2, in the afternoon.

The Montgomery County visit will focus on investment opportunities in major public-private partnership projects that are strategic to our future economic competitiveness. The theme for Montgomery County’s visit will be connecting the world’s largest market for healthcare needs (China) with the world’s most advanced medical technologies (Montgomery County).

The delegation will receive presentations and overview of Montgomery County led by County Executive Leggett and private sector partners, followed by a drive-through visit to the Food and Drug Administration in White Oak, the planned Global LifeSci Village and the Washington Adventist Hospital.

From there, the delegation will visit the Montgomery campus of Johns Hopkins University in Rockville for presentations and discussions concerning investment opportunities in BioHealth Innovations, the Greater Seneca Science Corridor, the Global LifeSci Village and other County-based projects, as well as meeting federal, state, and local officials.

“I’m pleased we are able to host our friends from China and continue to highlight the significant investment opportunities in the growing sectors and areas in our County,” said Leggett.
