Rockville Makes Voting on Nov. 5 Easy for City Residents
The city of Rockville encourages its residents to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5 and offers several services to voters to make the voting process as easy as possible.
Voters will be choosing between two candidates for mayor and six candidates for four council seats. They will also vote on three advisory referendum questions concerning changes to the City charter. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Registered voters have the option of voting absentee as long as they deliver their absentee ballot to the City Clerk’s office by the time the polls close on Election Day. Absentee ballots cannot be mailed to voters after Tuesday, Oct. 29, but voters can pick up an absentee ballot application in person at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. on weekdays through Election Day.
Rockville residents who missed the Oct. 7 deadline to register to vote can still do so on Election Day. The City offers the community the option to register and vote on Election Day at City Hall as long as residents bring a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or state-issued ID card, and proof of City residency when they come to vote.
If the photo ID does not have an address, a document issued by a corporation and showing an address, such as a utility bill or lease, may be used to show proof of residency. Current real estate tax bills will also be accepted.
To register, a resident must be a U.S. citizen and must be at least 18 years of age by Nov. 5. Same-day voting is available while polls are open, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.
Also on Election Day, voters can take advantage of two services offered by the City of Rockville to make sure they can cast their votes.
The city of Rockville will provide transportation to the polls for senior citizens on Election Day. Seniors living in private homes can request transportation assistance to the polls. Call the Senior Services Office at 240.314.8810 to reserve a ride. Calls for service must be made by Friday, Nov. 1.
Transportation will also be provided from the following locations (Note: times are approximate):
- Leaving from: Bethany House, 199 Rollins Ave. (Time: 8:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)
- Leaving from: Congressional Towers, 261 Congressional Ln. (Time: 8:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.)
- Leaving from: Ring House, 1801 E. Jefferson St. (Time: 9:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.)
- Leaving from: Town Center Apartments, 90 Monroe St. (Time: 11 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.)
Rockville offers curbside voting to residents who wish to vote but are physically unable to access the voting room at the polling place. In order to be eligible for use of curbside voting, residents must arrive at the polls in a car and have a companion notify the chief election judge in the voting room of the need for assistance.
The chief judge will verify the voter’s eligibility then bring a ballot and other necessary voting materials to the car. After voting, the voter must seal the marked ballot in a privacy envelope that the judge will deposit in a secure location in the voting room. Curbside voting ballots will be counted just as absentee ballots are counted.
