Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Accident forensicsDetectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Aug. 30 in the 20700 block of Highland Hall Drive in Montgomery Village.

According to police, the preliminary investigation incidates that the operator of a 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle turned onto Highland Hall Drive, did a “wheelie” and lost control of the motorcycle. Police said the motorcycle then accelerated, struck the curb, travelled across a grass area, and struck the side of a house. Upon striking the house, police said, the motorcycle and its operator travelled through a side window and came to rest inside the residence.

A Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene within minutes and found the victim pinned underneath the motorcycle. The deputy provided emergency medical care until arrival of fire and rescue units.

Police have identified the operator of the motorcycle as Richard Mark Sampson, age 44, who was transported to a local area hospital where police said the Montgomery Village resident died from his injuries. According to police, Sampson was the owner of the residence that was struck. No one else was injured, police said.
