SoccerPlex Will Host National Series

The Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds has been named the host of the U.S.
Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) National Championship Series July 20-27, 2014.

The Conference and Visitors Bureau (CVB) of Montgomery County, Maryland Soccer Foundation and the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) worked closely
on the bid to host this prestigious event. In January 2013, the CVB, Maryland Soccer Foundation and members of the MSYSA presented a formal bid in Indianapolisto the
National Championship’s Board of Directors. This same team also traveled in July to the host site of the 2013 National Championships in Overland Park, Kansas to help with
preparing for next year’s event. The Overland Park CVB staff provided input and suggestions to the Montgomery County CVB, including a tour of the city and soccer
facility.

teams, in the Under-13 through Under-19 Boys and Girls brackets. Teams will travel from across the country to compete in this championship.

The Championship will be held during a much needed slower period for hotels in Montgomery County. “July is typically one of the slower months for hotel occupancy,”
stated Kelly Groff, Executive Director of the CVB. “The tournament will generate an estimated 8,000 hotel room nights in one week and an estimated $4-5 million in
economic impact for local businesses.”

Montgomery County and the Maryland SoccerPlex were selected based on several criteria, including number of hotel rooms, facility requirements, airport access, free time
activities and affordability.

The Maryland SoccerPlex hosted the event in 2002 and 2003. “We are very honored to host the National Championship again,” stated Trish Heffelfinger, Executive Director of
the Maryland SoccerPlex. “Montgomery County and Maryland soccer teams have a rich tradition of winning national championships and we know the entire community will
embrace this event.”
