Today is Friday, July 9, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County:

1. Wheaton’s Town Plaza Dedication:  Montgomery County dedicates the plaza in downtown Wheaton to Marian Fryer, a longtime Wheaton resident and community activist. The ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. at the plaza and will be followed by a free outdoor concert by The Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m.

2. Food Assistance: Montgomery County has two food distribution events today. The first is the Interfaith Works HUB food distribution from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (drive through from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., walk ups from noon to 12:30 p.m.) at 751 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville. The second event is the St. John’s Nourishing Bethesda Family Food Program at 5020 Battery Lane in Bethesda from 1 to 3 p.m. Check the county’s website here for more food distribution events this weekend.

3. Live Music at the Streetery:  Tonight the Latin pop rock band Ocho de Bastos is scheduled to perform in Bethesda. The Bethesda Urban Partnership hosts live music every Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. through September 24. The concerts will take place at the corner of Cordell and Norfolk Avenues within the Bethesda Streetery. Tables and chairs are available at the Bethesda Streetery on a first come, first served basis.

4. 100th Storytime:  Since the start of the pandemic, Councilmember Will Jawando has held 99 virtual storytimes, where he reads children’s books aloud to families. To mark his 100th storytime reading, Jawando will read books aloud to families at 10 a.m. on Saturday outside the Rockville Memorial Library.
