1. Feed the Fridge Launch: Takoma Park is celebrating the launch of Feed the Fridge, an effort to support the hungry and support struggling restaurants, today at 10:30 a.m. at the Takoma Park Recreation Center. Takoma Park Mayor Kete Stewart, Takoma Park City Councilmember Talisha Searcy, and Montgomery County Councilmember Hans Reimer will attend the event.

2. Road Closures for Purple Line Construction: Utilities are scheduled to be relocated in Silver Spring as part of the work for the Purple Line. Expect temporary road closures at the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Cloverfield Road Friday morning. Starting March 1, crews will work to relocate the waterline along the right lane of eastbound Wayne Avenue from Manchester Road to the East Wayne entrance of the Plymouth Tunnel. Temporary road closures may take place for the next two months.
3. Digital Storytelling Class: Senior Planet Montgomery, a technology training program designed for residents ages 60 and older, is offering a free online class in digital storytelling from 11 a.m. to noon today. 4. Author Talk: Historian and author Jim Johnston presents the story of Yarrow Mamount today from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mamount was brought to Maryland on a slave ship in 1752. Johnston’s book, From Slave Ship to Harvard, follows later generations of Mamount’s family through Robert Turner Ford, who graduated from Harvard in 1923. The presentation is scheduled for 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Zoom or by phone 301-715-8592 and use meeting ID: 914 6181 2288.
5. Waterfowl Festival: Montgomery Parks final event of the virtual Waterfowl Festival is a family-friendly Take and Make It event Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. Register online and then stop by Black Hill Visitor Center to pick up the waterfowl craft kit to work on at home.
