1st Annual Easter Egg Hunt Brings Hundreds to Silver Spring (Photos)

Hundreds of residents took to the streets in Silver Spring on April 19 for their shot at finding some one-of-a-kind prizes in the first annual Easter Egg hunt organized by Silver Spring, Inc.
Between 1,100 and 1,400 eggs area hidden throughout Silver Spring primarily in local businesses which donated prizes in an effort to introduce participants to small businesses in the downtown area.
“A lot of Silver Spring residents mentioned that they visited businesses that they had never seen before,” said Pete Tan, co-founder and director of Silver Spring, Inc. “We wanted to do something for our community, but it drew people from other areas around DC, and that’s great.”
Tan said more than 600 people showed up for the event to collect around 1,000 to 1,400 eggs, which featured traditional eggs filled with candy in addition to “egg paintings” donated by local Silver Spring artists.
“People discovered Silver Spring businesses and artists, and we couldn’t be more pleased. That’s our mission,” Tan said. “We spoke with several business owners who explained that they had significant amounts of unexpected foot traffic come through their businesses. We had a lot of fun doing this, and we hope to make this a Silver Spring tradition.”
