151 MCPS Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
151 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students are National Merit semifinalists in the 2019 competition. The semifinalists will go on to compete nationally for scholarships that will be awarded in the spring. The competition is sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The schools with the most finalists are Montgomery Blair (42), Richard Montgomery (36), and Poolesville and Winston Churchill (12).
The MCPS semifinalists come from 16 high schools. The high schools and number of semifinalists are:

Albert Einstein: 1
Walter Johnson: 3
Richard Montgomery: 36
Northwest: 1
Paint Branch: 3
Poolesville: 12

Rockville: 1
Sherwood: 4
Wheaton: 3
Walt Whitman: 11
Thomas S. Wootton: 11
Semifinalists from MCPS were selected from among high school juniors who were top scorers on the 2017 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 16,000 semifinalists across the nation will be considered for advancement to the finalist stage of the competition.
Finalists will be considered for $2,500 National Merit scholarships, plus additional corporate-sponsored and college/university-sponsored scholarships.
