Chevy Chase Girl Raising Money for Refugees in Jordan (VIDEO)

Shaadi Ghorbani is only 12-years-old and has managed to raise more than $4,000 to help children at Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan; a mission that all started with her dad.

“Watching the news over the past year the situation wasn’t getting any better and I felt like I wanted to do something,” said Dr. Ali Ghorbani. “I spoke to a doctor in the hospital who had done three mission trips in Jordan and I said, well I’m going to do one.”

After contacting the Syrian American Medical Society, Dr. Ghorbani went off to Zaatari.

“After my dad came back from Zaatari, he didn’t talk about it much,” said Ghorbani. “But about a year later , he told me how some clinics didn’t have thermometers, didn’t have MRI’s. It was very crazy.”

Dr.  Ghorbani didn’t know the impact he left on his daughter until one day he saw something out of the ordinary

“One day I was walking in the park and I saw a picture if a kitten on a pole and right underneath the picture there was a paper and my picture was on the paper ,” said Dr. Ghorbani. “That’s how I found out she was raising money for kids in Zaatari.”

That picture was for a Go FundMe Advertisement entitled, “HelpDad Fund Medical Refugee Needs.”

“I was really sad because I couldn’t do anything about it and donating to a fund didn’t give me the satisfaction because I didn’t really know where  the money would be going and how much of it would be going,” said Ghorbani.

Her dad was hesitant at first afraid of the possible backlash and danger said he couldn’t be more proud.

“We’re very close and we always talk about things . I didn’t know the extent that she wanted be involved […] I am proud of her for what she has done,” said Dr. Ghorbani.

Shaddi Ghorbani is a small girl trying to make a big impact. Her goal is to raise $10,000 before her dad’s next mission trip early next year.
