10 Things to do In Gaithersburg, Germantown and Rockville Area for $10 or Less

If you’re looking for affordable summer activities along I-270, here are 10 activities for under $10 in the Rockville, Gaithersburg and Germantown areas.

Butler’s Orchard
A $3 day pass grants access to Pick Your Own Fields, the Farm Park Picnic Area, the Giant Slides, the Nature Trail, and the Farm Park Animals. Visitors can also see the sheep, two miniature donkeys, goats, and Charlie the Pig. Admission is free for children under a year old.

Pontoon Boat Tours
Glide over Little Seneca Lake or Lake Needwood Saturdays, Sundays and holidays through September.
Tickets are $5 for a regular boat tour and $6 for a private boat tour at Little Seneca Lake. Tickets are $4 per person and free for children ages 2 and under at Lake Needwood.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gaithersburg Community Museum
Located in a restored railroad station built in 1884, this free museum features early 1900s train cars, interactive displays, tours, genealogical research, educational programs and a gift shop. A true taste of local history, the museum has collections of photographs, documents and other historic articles that tell the history of Gaithersburg.

Free Zumba at RIO
Move to Latin rhythms to improve your balance, flexibility, strength and energy every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. on the Lakefront Plaza near Uncle Julio’s at RIO Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg. Free!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gaithersburg Miniature Golf Course
All ages can enjoy this mini golf course in Bohrer Park. $7 for nonresidents, $6 for residents.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gaithersburg Skate Park
You can take skateboards, inline skates and BMX bikes on this 12,300 square foot skate park. There are amps and structures suitable for all skill levels, including an A-frame ramp and rail, a mini-half pipe, a 7’6” escalator, stairs, a pyramid wedge, fun boxes, a wall ride, and several quarters and banks of varying heights. All ramps are constructed with a wood frame and Skatelite surface. It costs $3 to rent a skateboard and $5 to rent a helmet and safety pads.

BlackRock Center for the Arts
Free artist talks, galleries, exhibits, events – this non-profit cultural center has it all. Gallery admission and artist receptions are free.

Rio Summer Concerts
Dance and listen to live music on the RIO Patio every Friday and Saturday from 6-9pm near the paddle boats and Union Jack’s. Concerts are free.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Salsa at the Square

Jam to reggae, blues, pop, rock and more at Rockville Town Square. These free outdoor concerts take place every Friday from 6-9 p.m. through Sept 14.
