Student Forum on Sexual Harassment, Assault In Schools Set For Oct. 13

A student-led virtual town hall on sexual harassment and assault is set for Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.

Montgomery County Public Schools is joining Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Montgomery County Police Department, the Victim Assistance Sexual Assault Program, Choose Respect Montgomery, Coaching Boys Into Men, EveryMind and Identity on this forum for both students and community members.

Let’s Talk Respect: Preventing Sexual Harassment and Assault in part arose following this summer’s allegations from MCPS students that were made anonymously on Instagram concerning incidents of possible ongoing sexual harassment and assaults of female students.

Goals of the program include acknowledging the students’ stories that were shared on social media, updating MCPS’ responses and actions, providing an anonymous, safe space for students to ask questions, getting student feedback on ways to support student victims and sharing resources for students and families.
